OUR MISSION
Our aim as 4S is to provide a community-oriented environment for students wishing to support the mental health of military personnel. Working towards improving the health of our military service members, part of our goal is to raise awareness and funding for national organizations (such as Operation First Response) that support mental health of service members and provide them with financial assistance as they reenter civilian life. More importantly we strive to engage in a hands-on effort to learn more about issues that plague service-members and veterans by creating relationships within the Charlottesville community and beyond. Our activities in the past have included a PTSD banquet, where we had visitors from the UVA Schools of Nursing and Neuroscience who were also veterans as well as a veteran combat nurse to share their perspectives, vast knowledge and stories about PTSD to provide a forum for the UVA community and larger community to increase their knowledge and future research about how to deal with these topics.
